First Day of School!

As of today, I have a 4th grader and 2nd grader living in my house. Hannah keeps saying, "wow, I can't get used to saying I am a 4th grader, it sounds old." Tell me about it. I still think they should be going to Antioch Preschool!
Hannah described her day as "awesome" and Hudson said his was "a lot of fun". So, what more can you ask for from the first day of school? They both want to go back on Monday. Hudson has one little boy in his class who doesn't speak English, and his teacher told me how much he helped the little boy all day. She said she was so thankful for his help. There are 8 boys in his class, and 3 girls. Poor teacher. Hannah really loved her class too. She knows all of the girls in her class already, making the first day of school much easier. Sorry these are only pics of Hudson's class....Hannah said we couldn't take pictures of her in her classroom on the 1st day....apparently you don't do that in 4th gr. I think she said that in 3rd grade too. So, you will just have to glimpse Hudson's room.

On Fridays the kids get out of school at noon. What a great school! So, promptly at noon we picked them up, headed to McD for the first day of school debrief, then on to Wal-Mart to buy school supplies. It was really sunny...as you can see on Hudson's face. (wal-mart in the background) While some things never change, one very important thing did.....I spent only $20 on supplies, while last year it was $200. YEA!!!! The one little wrinkle came when we realized there are no lunch boxes here. There are lunch tins....a la Laura Ingalls Wilder....which frankly my kids take more than that to eat for lunch. So we found little bags that I think will work.

Finally I will leave you with a few shots from Wal-Mart, things you don't always see at your local Moore Wal-Mart. I left out the food shots...those will be for another day and post.
This is my favorite sight, always. In the electronic section there are benches lined up in rows, so people can watch TV....the olympics. There is always a crowd in this area.

Nothing like a little light reading for children....notice these men, Abraham Lincoln, Karl Marx, and Confucious, all side by side. I wonder exactly how fruit falls in love, and does it taste better when it is in love? These are questions that roll through my mind. Nothing like a little home town pride. I thought the Wal-Mart Smileys cheered for Team USA, now I know.

Father is good. We prayed for boys for Hudson. Thanks for making us a part of the kids first day of school. I am proud of Hudson. He has such a tender little heart.

Great back to school pics. I am sure that Hannah and Hudson will have a great school year and will be the top students in their class.
You can't beat Walmart for back to school supplies no matter where you are :)

I love that Hannah and Hudson are making the standard Asian pictorial hand gesture (see all my Japan pictures); way to embrace their new culture!!

Very fun post. Could you do me a favor and go to the greeting card dept. in WM and take a pic? Do they even have such a thing?

Happy 2nd day of school - well, I guess you're getting ready for the 3rd day now!! So glad it went well for both kiddos.

Roman was the exact same about taking pictures on her 1st day. But, I, stealthily and in true ninja form, popped out behind another parent and snapped one of her at her desk!! Nothing like a little embarassment to start the year off right at a new school!
