4 Months Ago Today

Well friends and family.....we have lived here 4 months today. It is so hard for us to beleive we have been here that long already, and even more incredulous is that we haven't lived in OK in 8 months. WHAT!?!?!?

So, in honor of our 4 month anniversary.....I know, a little strange.....I will give you a list of things I have learned so far.

1. Who knew you could actually go through 2 big cans of Crisco in 4 months......side note, I hadn't gone through an entire can of Crisco in 12 years of marriage, usually it went rancid and I would throw it away.

2. It is more comfortable to wear slippers or rubber shoes inside the house than go barefoot.

3. Rob and I really enjoy cooking together, and he is a great cook. Never before has cooking been a project we could share together.

4. I spend way too much money at Wal-Mart....oh wait nothing new about that.

5. This one is big....I prefer to eat local noodles for lunch than McDonalds or KFC.

6. I have found there are tons of "new" fruits here that I really love, but my mom never taught me to "thump" or "smell" these types of fruits so I have had to learn by trial and error what is good and what isn't.

7. If you just ask the butcher at Wal-Mart to grind you beef....he is happy to do it. Why? Because they seem to have stopped carrying ground beef. So when I go shop, I go there first and have to ask them to grind up some fresh beef. They oblige becuase I buy a lot.....and freeze it. Now, when I show up they say "no problem, can you wait a few minutes".

8. I like to eat squid and sweet potato vine (you know the pretty purple and green vine in your front yard that about now has taken over your flower bed.....you can cook it and eat it...who knew?)

9. When you have language 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, it can cause crazy dreams where you spend the whole night translating back and forth.....and it is pretty scary when you start translating for yourself!

1o. The biggest thing I have learned in the last 4 months is how much I love my little family. Rob, the kids, and I have spent so much time together since January.....and we sure have had fun. I wouldn't trade it for anything. After living a life where there would be days the kids wouldn't see Rob becasue he would be at work before they got up until after they went to bed, we have all adjusted nicely to being together A LOT!!

4 months down.....and we are doing well. Can't wait to learn even more!!

And in 4 months I have leared that we can survive without being "with" our kids frequently. But praise God for webcam and blobs and e-mail. It helps make it feel like you are not so very far away. I am so glad that you are enjoying your new place. I am glad that you enjoy being together and doing things together. And, wow! I'm impressed my son helping with the cooking. Way to go Rob. Just be careful about that crisco it's what makes young veins old and clogged. Maybe we need to bring you some olive or canola oil when we come. Love ya

Good blog. Made me wonder though... do they also grind free range chicken? (lol... tell Rob I asked that just for him.)

Our new group all met tonight and I'm getting very pumped to come and see you guys in a couple months! Start making your October Christmas list! :)

What a beautiful post. Thank you for sharing your heart with us.

WHAT??? you can cook sweet potato vine? Charlett and I were just talking about wondering if you could eat the actual potato. Have you tried that?

I love reading your list...some things I can identify with (the crazy dreams!), some I cannot(sweet potato vines???). Congrats on the 4 month mark! We miss you!

Such an informative post. I didn't know you could eat sweet potato vine or that it actually made potatoes. Crisco will ruin???!!!

I do know my Granny, a true southern gal, was smiling in heaven at the use of all that crisco!!

Four months seems like four years.
