A Little History

We had a free Saturday this weekend.

What do you do when you are so close to history? Go check out the sights.

What a fun day we had! We started off in Jamestown (if you don't know what happened in these places shame on you, go look it up!! or you can now ask my children) which was so cool......

OK, hold on, I have to add in something here for Phil. As we were driving to Jamestown, and had just gotten off at our exit, we all spotted something we haven't seen since leaving Oklahoma.....SONIC!! Rob quickly veered off the road and headed straight for it. I can't tell you how good Sonic is after 2 months without it....now back to Jamestown.

There were all sorts of things to see, artifacts to look at, and many things to talk to our kids about. So much American history took place right where we visited. After a few hours in Jamestown, we hopped back in the car and drove down Colonial Parkway, which is a road preserved by the National Parks Services connecting Jamestown and Yorktown, it looks like it did hundreds of years ago, only paved. Once we arrived in Yorktown we found a local restaurant and ate on the water.

Yorktown....WOW...2 battles fought here, Revolutionary War battle and a Civil War battle. In fact, not to be giving away too much history you should already know, but Yorktown was the battle in the American Revolution that all but finished the British army. George Washington and company outsmarted the Brits. We got to walk around all of the groundworks on the battlefield which are still there today and talk about how they would have fought in those times. (there was a great movie in the visitor center describing exactly what happened). Then we drove around and looked at the old houses still standing today. Some are actually still lived in.

Finally we finished our day in Williamsburg. We walked around the town and looked in the shops. Then...ended up at the historic.....Pizza Hut....we are all a little tired of cafeteria food, especially on the weekends when it is leftovers from the previous week. Yikes!

Last night as we prayed before bed, Hudson thanked God for all the men who had lost their lives at the places we visited so we could have a country. WOW! This is why I love history.

We are already looking forward to seeing you soon! But we love seeing what you're up to! I love all the history! Everyone looks great! I wrote to Hannah that Granddad and Ryan finally got to play golf (and Granddad beat him...) but don't tell EVERYONE! (Only those who read this...) I'm sure there will be many rematches! The weather has been nice enough for Grandmother to take a few short walks. Your Dad is leading worship this weekend in Yukon. Otherwise, we miss you and love you!!! KA
