Another weekend....more history. Today we went to St. John's church for the afternoon. This is THE PLACE...the church is still standing and in use today....where Patrick Henry gave his famous line, "Give me Liberty or Give me Death". Next Sunday is the anniversary of the speech, so once a year (and during the summer) they have a reinactment of the Congress, including this famous speech. George Washington, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, and about 6 others from that time period who attended this meeting, actually sit among the audience and stand and shout and give their arguments whether they were for war or against war with the British. I have to say, it was really great! We all loved it. Hudson wasn't sure for a while, then they started yelling at each other, and he was in.
But...before the reinactment, they had an organ concert. The pipe organ in this church was amazing. The man who played did an excellent job involving this 21st centruy crowd and drawing them into the organ music. I have to say, my children are less than familiar with an organ. Anyway, the last portion of the concert was a patriotic section, concluding with the National Anthem. Now, my son has learned the National Anthem at school, but Oklahomans sometimes learn the alternative ending, which he is proficient at since he has attended several OU games. He knows the end of the song as what.....OU fans? "And the home of the SOONERS" So we begin singing and he is proud he knows the song so he is singing out, when it dawns on Rob, that Hudson will probably yell Sooners at the end of the song, because that is usually how he hears it. Keep in mind we are in an old church, where Patrick Henry cried "Give me Liberty...." probably not the place you want "SOONERS" yelled out in irreverence. Thankfully, Rob got my attention in time and I conveyed the message to my son, who was distraught that those weren't the correct words to the song. Thankfully we averted the crisis....especially since we have found when we wear our OU shirts out and about......we are in the home of the "west virginia Mountaineers".
OK...one more funny Hudson story from the week. On Tuesday, the kids got to meet the president of our new company. I asked my children when they got back how it had gone...typical mom questions. This is the story I received. They were touring the office building and got to go into the president's office. He came out of a meeting as they were leaving the office. The teacher introduced the class, and several shook his hand. Hannah then says, "Mom, Hudson ran up and gave him a huge hug." I quickly asked if everyone was hugging him. She replied "NO" only Hudson. Which Hudson quickly chimes in, "It's not every day you meet a president." Very True.
