Life on the Farm

There is a beautiful farm house and silo as you drive onto the campus where we now live....so this place is affectionately known as "the Farm". There are no sheep, goats, cows, or chickens. There are ducks.....and they live outside our building. Life is a lot slower here than what I am accustomed to, which is very nice. I think that is due to the fact that the people who are over us are at a conference this week. They are coming home next week, I am told it may pick up. Don't get me wrong, we have things to do, homework, reading, etc....but think how much time is saved when you don't have to drive to and from work, to and from the grocery store, or spend any time in the kitchen. It's a wonderful life.

So far, we have oriented to life here. Our kids love school, and have made friends. Next week they get to go to the circus, which they are looking forward to and trade Valentine's with their class. There is a library just for kids so they come home with new books every day to read. The first day of school the kids came home talking nonstop. They commented how cool the library was and how it has a system where you pull the card out of the back of the book, write your name on it, stamp the card and the book with a due date, and leave it in a box for a librarian. They wanted to know if I had ever seen such a thing.......uh, yes....that's how they did it in the old days, before there was a scanning GPS system that could track library books anywhere in the world. (just kidding and it is a good thing since I owe fines at both libraries in OKC)

We are living with some great people who we have already played cards with several nights this week, staying up way too late. Nerts is the favorite game of all and since Rikki, Tom, and Krista aren't playing, I have actually won a few games. :) Phil, you should play with these people, you could win too. The living conditions are great, with lots of room to spread out and enjoy the people around you. It is a little like a college dorm, only I have children. In fact, it is 1 am here and there is still a card game going on, only it is the post college crowd. The old folks are getting their assignments done and geting ready for bed.

Seriously, we are all having a great time so far. There is so much to learn and soak in, we are really looking forward to all we will learn while we are here!!
