I have never spent much extended time in California, but the two days I have been here so far.....FABULOUS!!! Let me begin by saying that my brother and sister-in-law live on a hill overlooking Riverside, with incredible views of the city. They have fruit trees in their backyard and as soon as we got here yesterday I sent the boys out to pick some fruit. Since I am a city girl I have to say I have never had fresh picked oranges straight from the tree.....now, I am hooked. I had one for a snack yesterday, then for breakfast this morning.....YUM YUM!! Wal-Mart oranges.....oh so sad.
Today we spent the day at California Baptist University where Krista and Phil teach. What a beautiful campus and very impressive school. We had a wonderful day exploring the campus, meeting some great people, listening to one of Phil's choirs (impressive), and generally having a great time. We met quite a few OBU grads who are now at CBU, and found out again how truly small of a world this is. In fact, as we were touring Phil's office today, Hudson turned the handle on the office next door, and there was a professor in there. We peeked our heads in to explain we were just passing by and Krista told me this professor had gone to OBU and was a music major about the same time I was. I said hello to the lady, and we figured out I graduated two years before she had...she now has her doctorate....and she says to me, "Oh you were in SAI (a music sorority)" I replied yes, in fact I was the VP the year she probably pledged, and she said, "Yes, you made me clean your apartment several times while I was pledging." Yep...that's me. And most people think I am nice.
I keep telling Rob how nice it is here in California. I have never had a desire to live in CA, always joking it is the land of fruits and nuts, but I must say the weather here is definitely worth a second thought on living here. PERFECT. There is no wind. There is no bitter cold. There is no heat. (Of course that would not be true in the summer). It is definitely the place to spend the winter. Already in the last two days we have had a great time to relax and just enjoy being here. We have big plans for the next few days while we are here, so more to come....
